Turkey is a more unusual bird species, and that’s saying something! This can make drawing a cartoon turkey fun and challenging at the same time. That’s precisely what this guide is for because we want to show you how you can quickly learn how to draw a fun portrait of this unusual bird.
How to Draw A Cartoon Turkey
We start this cartoon turkey drawing with a head and face and have fun and whimsical facial expression for this funny turkey drawing! You can start the face by drawing a simple oval shape for the first eye.
This then has a curved line for the other eye. We will then add a black dot in each eye for the pupils. Next, we draw the beak of the turkey. This is drawn using curved lines with pointed tips for areas like the tip of the beak.
The mouth is wide open and black except for the tongue at the bottom of the mouth. Finally, draw the rest of the head outline with more rounded lines around the eyes, and then we can move on.
In this second step of our how-to draw a cartoon turkey guide, we will add a neck and wings for this crazy guy! We’ll start with the neck to make things easier. First, draw two lines going down from the base of the beak.
These lines fan out in some parts of curved springs, as we show in the reference image. The wings are then attached directly to that part of the neck.
They are also drawn with curved and rounded lines and are made up of three large feathers. Each feather gets a little smaller as you go down. So we can move on to step 3!
Continuing with this guide, we’ll add the rest of the body outline. This design has a plump, rounded body so we will use large, rounded lines for this outline.
However, these lines are not solid, as two sections stick out at the body’s base. Some pointed, curved sections protrude from these, from which the legs will later emerge. Finish off with more sharp lines across the bust, and then we can move on!
One of the most recognizable parts of a turkey’s appearance should be its enormous tail, and now we’re going to add that to your cartoon turkey drawing along with the feet. We’ll start with the legs.
These will be relatively short and skinny, coming from the sections we added earlier at the body’s base. Feet are relatively long and flat with rounded toes.
The tail consists of many large feathers with rounded ends that fan out behind the turkey. Once these elements are added, we can move on to some final details!
You can now add the small details and final elements to this cartoon turkey drawing as we prepare for the final step of the guide. These details are essential, but they will effectively complete this fantastic display.
We added straight lines through the feathers near the rounded tips and then added some lines on the feet and around the feathers to show the movement. We chose these details for this turkey, but you could add many more!
These could include more minor details about the turkey, but they could also include creating a fun background setting with this turkey.
We will finish with some colors in this last step of our guide on drawing a cartoon turkey. In our reference image, we chose different shades of brown for the feathers and then used soft shades of yellow for the feather tips.
We also used orange and red tones for minor details like the beak and legs. You can also use similar colors in your design, but this is your chance to let your creativity run wild!
Knowing what colors you will use also helps you have fun with the art tools and mediums you choose to achieve your desired colors.
