Supermicro Networking Solutions

Date:

Supermicro specializes in designing and supplying computer server solutions, enabling cloud computing, data center virtualization, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation. The company is a provider of modular and scalable server solutions with micro-blade architectures that support AI, big data analytics, virtualization, cloud computing, and digital transformation. With over 25 years of experience in the tech industry, Supermicro is listed among the top 20 technology companies in Taiwan by insider magazine Business Weekly. With at least one Supermicro server in every new Facebook data center, Supermicro has also been recognized as a trusted partner by companies like Apple and Google.

With rackmount server, blade server, and storage solutions, Supermicro has a wide range of products to address the needs of various industries from retail to data centers. According to data center market research firm IDC, Supermicro is the leader in terms of both revenues and shipments in the global server market. In 2013, Supermicro was ranked the #1 fastest growing company in Forbes magazine’s annual Fastest-Growing Private Companies list. In 2015, Supermicro was named one of the top 50 Taiwanese brands by Business Weekly magazine.

Supermicro provides servers, storage, and networking solutions for the hyperscale data center, enterprise server, cloud computing, and edge computing markets. Supermicro is the largest supplier of servers for Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the world. Supermicro’s products are used by many companies like Microsoft, Intel, Huawei, Cisco, Google, and HPE. Supermicro also offers an extensive line of motherboards based on Intel’s LGA1151 socket that supports Intel Xeon and Xeon Phi processors.

In 2016 it was announced that Supermicro had won a contract to provide servers to the Chinese military. In 2017 it was reported that Supermicro had won a contract to provide servers to China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC), China’s largest mobile network operator. AI deep learning is a type of machine learning that uses artificial neural networks to perform tasks such as image recognition, speech recognition, and natural language translation. Supermicro’s server products are well suited for AI deep learning applications because of their low power consumption and high density.

In 2016 Supermicro announced the first generation of its HS-A1 product series for AI deep learning. The HS-A1 is a dual-socket server with up to 56 processing cores. It has up to 4TB DDR4 ECC memory and supports Intel Xeon processors with either 4 or 8 CPU cores. The HS-A1 product series includes two models, HS-A1C and HS-A1D, which differ in terms of the number of CPU cores (from 16 to 56), amount of ECC memory (from 4TB to 8TB), and processor type (from Intel Xeon E5 family to Intel Xeon Phi family). In June 2017 Supermicro launched the new A2P system in the HPC market. The A2P is a 12 CPU system based on Intel’s Skylake architecture with up to 288 PCIe lanes per socket, up to 1 TB RAM per node, four 10 GbE ports per node, and support for 24 x 40 NVMe/SAS SSDs per node.

Supermicro also offers entry-level servers based on AMD EPYC processors that come at a lower cost than comparable Intel servers but have a similar density as compared to comparison with comparable Intel servers.Supermicro has also developed a line of high-performance external graphics processing units (eGPU) for use with laptops and other devices. The products in the eGPU series are based on AMD’s Polaris architecture and support up to three GPUs per board, each of which can be configured as a PCIe root complex, PCIe child comparable Supermicro servers but with more expensive AMD EPYC processors.

With machine learning solutions, Supermicro has developed a small form factor server (SFF) for AI applications. The SFF is a single-socket server with up to 72 processing cores with support for up to 8TB DDR4 ECC memory and an AMD EPYC processor. Supermicro designed a series of ultra-dense data storage systems for use in data centers and high bandwidth storage applications. The products in the series are based on SATA 6Gbps drives but have support for NVMe SSDs, PCIe SSDs, and flash arrays.

As a tech company that is constantly developing new products and services, Supermicro has a reputation for being a technology leader. In recent years, Supermicro has expanded its product portfolio with a focus on high-end servers and storage solutions. The company’s products have been used in applications such as cryptocurrency mining, virtual reality, digital content distribution, and gaming.
